At the end of her working visit to Ukraine, the Lithuanian Prime Minister, together with her friend, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, visited the Ochmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv, which was severely damaged in the targeted missile attack by Russia on 8 July.
“There are no words adequate to express the horror and rage that comes from witnessing the aftermath of the barbaric acts of terror in Russia,” said Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė during her visit to a key children’s treatment facility.
During the visit, the hospital’s doctors showed the effects of the Russian attack and presented plans for the reconstruction of the hospital. The Prime Minister stressed that the reconstruction work at Ochmatdyt has every potential and must become a success story of focus, transparency and efficiency.
On 10 July the Government of Lithuania contributed 1 million euros for the reconstruction of the Ochmatdyt Hospital in Kyiv, and participates in the Supervisory Board together with other international partners.
Ukraine’s largest paediatric medical centre, Okhmatdyt Hospital, performs around 7 000 complex surgeries every year, diagnosing and treating haematological diseases, treating children with cancer and performing bone marrow transplants. The Russian attack damaged the hospital’s buildings, including the newest one, built in 2020 and equipped with modern medical equipment.
